Analysis timeline planner
Plan, schedule and track the Analysis phase as a project. Each row is an activity from the DSAT page, in the same order and with the same references and guides. Set your start date and target, adjust the durations and owners to suit your TNA, then update the status as the work progresses. The plan recalculates the dates, the critical path and your remaining time automatically.

Top tip: this is your TNA Plan. DTSM 2 para 4.3.1 says a TNA Plan SHOULD set milestone dates for each activity so stakeholders can review progress, and as a minimum show what is to be done, by whom and when. Para 4.3.2 makes the TRA responsible for it. Print or download this plan and attach it to the TNA Terms of Reference.
Top tip: size the plan in the Scoping Exercise. DTSM 2 para 4.1.2 expects the Scoping Exercise to set out the timescales and the resources needed for the analysis. Para 2.2.3 notes a TNA can range from a simple interview to several months, so every activity starts at 0 days for you to size. Para 4.1.3 lets you confirm an existing Role PS or framework instead of starting from first principles, so mark activities you don't need as "Not required".
Top tip: protect the hand-off date. DTSM 2 para 3.2.3 asks the TNA Steering Group to set milestones that meet the Ready for Training Date (RFTD). Activities outlined in black are on the critical path, so any slip there moves your hand-off date. Record schedule risks on the RAID register (DTSM 2 section 4.6, JSP 822 3.27) and report them to the TNASG (JSP 822 3.71).

Top tip: plan SME time early. SME reviews (2.2, 2.5, 3.5, 5.1 and 6.3) are where analysis plans usually slip. Book SME time when you set the plan, and use the SME Role Review guide so comments come back in Shadow, keeping the audit trail DTSM 2 para 2.3.7 asks for.
Top tip: sign-offs are gates, not tasks. The OPS (5.3), the FTS (7.5) and the TrAD (10.4) follow your organisation's approvals process (JSP 822 3.25 and 3.83). Set "Approval turnaround" to your approving authority's real lead time. Later activities can't start until each gate is passed, which protects the golden thread from OPS task to TO and EO.
Top tip: durations are planning assumptions. Every activity starts at 0 working days. JSP 822 and the DTSMs don't set durations, so enter your own figures, and record the basis in the Scoping Exercise Report (DTSM 2 section 4.7) so the timescale can be defended at review.
Edit the start and finish dates on any activity. A start date you set is fixed and highlighted; clear it to return to the scheduled date. Changing a finish date updates the working days. Your plan is saved automatically in this browser only. Select Save plan to save your changes straight away. Use Load plan file to open a plan file shared by your team.
